What is somatic work?

“Somatic” means to connect to your body. We’re using physical awareness of sensations to understand where we feel emotions in our bodies.

We move, stretch, tap, shake, massage, hum, sway, and jump to release stuck emotions and flow through grief, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, and burnout. We move past any feelings of embarrassment or hesitation quickly, and focus on release.

In 1:1 work, we may even release anger through slamming a pillow against the bed, blasting music through headphones, and even screaming!

Somatic work teaches you to safely become aware of stuck feelings in your body, hold them with love, and let them out in an empowered container.

The Ripple Experience is a combination of meditation, yoga, and exercises that are designed to acknowledge and release feelings.

Once you understand how your work stress, burnout, and tension are showing up in your body, you’ll relate to your life in a totally different way: more capable, more connected, more balanced, and more expressive.

Who can somatic work help?

Burnout and stress

If you’re overworked, exhausted, and tired of trying to balance it all, come learn to do less. To release. To ground in your body, in community, with a fresh tool belt of coping and relief strategies.

New moms and parents

You have a new-found drive to break generational cycles of frustration, suppression, and unhealthy communication. But you also have less time and extra energy than ever before. Somatic work helps you ground, connect with yourself, and find peace.

Chronic pain

You’ve tried everything, and you may feel skeptical of another modality. We’ll focus on being present, accepting what is, and allowing tension to move through us. We’ll remember the core goodness we all have and find relief, right here in this moment.

Infertility

When you’re facing challenges conceiving and supporting a healthy pregnancy, it can be easy to feel like your body is working against you. Somatic work helps you regain a sense of deep connection with your body and foster safety during a challenging season.

Sobriety and addiction

Somatic work offers you a tool to get out of your head and into your body. It’s both a short- and long-term tool you can use to break old patterns and re-wire your cycles. When your nervous system is calmer, and you’re more aware of how your triggers affect you, you feel more empowered to make decisions that align with your values.

High-stress jobs

Do you work in a field where you frequently need to ‘override’ your nervous system’s signals due to shift work, on-calls, or high stress? Industries like healthcare or first responders benefit from the mind-body connection, grounding, and body-awareness practices that somatic work teaches.

Meet your Ripple Somatics coach: Shelby Williams

I have worked in the medical field, exercising with cardiac patients and people with various diseases for the past 10 years. I take a holistic approach to health, making exercise part of a daily routine, incorporating mindfulness, and in turn helping you feel better in your body and mind.

I love any type of movement, it is where I feel most at home in my body. After going through some health concerns, I found nervous system regulation and believe that it is the missing piece of the puzzle for so many people’s health. Reach out if you are, too.

My most recent certification is a Nervous System Regulation Practitioner certification, with an emphasis in the polyvagal theory. I also have my 200-hour yoga teacher training certification, Master's of Science in Exercise Physiology, ACSM Exercise Physiologist certification, Yoga for Cancer certification, and Cancer Exercise certification level 2.

I offer somatic work from the lens of someone who has lived it
